Jonas Carlsen (1992) lives and works in Oslo, Norway. He studied photography at the Nordic School of Photography & has a Master in Industrial Design from The Oslo School of Architecture & Design.
My personal work interrogates the evolving relationship between humanity and technology, posing the question; "Where do we go from here?". Trough access to artificial environments - including research laboratories, hydroelectric dams, hospitals, anechoic chambers, and sewage treatment facilities, my photographs reveal the infrastructure that somehow shape our contemporary existence.
A basis for my work is to try and visualize the hidden systems and apparatuses on which modern society depends, examining how these spaces clearly mediate our understanding of reality.
By documenting sites at the intersection of science, medicine, industry and nature, Im exploring the cultural and technological forces that define our society. Moving between rural and urban contexts, I try to confront the disparities in access to knowledge and power, tracing the evidence of human intentions in the structures we create. I want to challenge the distinction between the natural and the constructed, questioning the frameworks through which we perceive and engage with the world.
