The Antiproton Decelerator (AD) is a unique machine that produces low-energy antiprotons for studies of antimatter, and “creates” antiatoms.

The year 2025 was declared the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology by the United Nations General Assembly to promote international collaboration while marking the 100 year anniversary of the scientific theory of quantum mechanics.

What I struggle to understand, however, is that I am in the presence of a photograph of an extraordinarily complex piece of equipment, composed of an uncountable number of tubes and wires, along with a host of subsidiary devices, none of which I am familiar with, all assembled and connected in immeasurably complex ways. Put slightly differently, I realize at once that what I am being shown goes far beyond my ability to fully take it in, no matter how long or how closely I look.
