 undersøker jeg det komplekse forholdet mellom natur, teknologi og menneskelig inngripen, og hvordan dette utspiller seg i landskapene vi former gjennom industri og utvinning. Vi frakter råmaterialer på et nivå verden knapt har sett maken til, og i dette systemet glir naturens ressurser inn i en ustoppelig syklus av transformasjon, forflytning og omforming. Det som en gang var et landskap erodert av uttak, fremstår nå som en arena der materialene blir prosessert og omarbeidet, og danner nye, midlertidige og flyktige landskap. 

I bildene prøver jeg ikke nødvendigvis forklare, men snarere forstyrre opplevelsen av det tilsynelatende velkjente. I arbeidet betrakter jeg landskap der materie er satt i bevegelse, masser som er flyttet, brutt opp, samlet, etterlatt. Fotografiene blir en slags studie av ny natur, den nye materien, satt i bevegelse som etterlot seg spor. Naturen synes å iaktta, stillferdig, tålmodig, som om den registrerer og bærer videre sporene av våre inngrep.

Masser og former, linjer og strukturer, lar seg ikke alltid plassere. En åtte tonn tung knusekule hviler i grusen og kan et øyeblikk ligne en globus. Et slags bilde på vår egen verden, underveis i sin egen nedbrytning. Skygger strekker seg ut over stein og jord, og forskyver opplevelsen av skala, som om landskapet selv trekker seg unna blikket.

Arbeidet med rytme er sentralt. Gjentakelser i landskapet, i maskinens spor og i lysets fall, danner en understrøm i bildene. Et slags suggererende mønster som antyder at alt er i bevegelse, om enn langsomt? Fotografiene verken forklarer eller dokumenterer i konvensjonell forstand; de åpner for at betrakteren kan gå seg vill, se og sanse uten å vite helt hva de ser. Er vi blendet? I dette rommet mellom det gjenkjennelige og det fremmede ligger en tvetydighet som speiler landskapets og materiens egen motstand mot entydige fortolkninger.


Hvordan ser vi naturen dersom vi tenker at den ikke er passiv, men selv handler?

Prosjektet "Circuit" manifesterer seg i en utstilling med kunster Katja Høst, under navnet "Vital Materie", ved Fotografiens Hus, september 2025. 

Circuit

SPECS examines the core of technological and scientific landscapes, exploring environments where technology thrives and how human vulnerability and technological precision are intertwined. This project involves photographing high-tech environments and capturing portraits of individuals who work with or rely on technology. This fusion of human vulnerability and technological precision raises questions: How did we arrive at this point? Where do we go from here? What role can photography play in describing these practices?

At a time when the development of techno-instruments easily outpaces our capacity for reflection, artistic production can offer unique insights. 

Techno-instruments serve dual roles in science and art, acting as instruments of experimentation, discovery, and invention, while also altering our aesthetic relationship to the world. In this context, the dialogue between a laboratory camera and an artist’s camera challenges us to rethink our relationship with technology.

This project was created between 2023 & 2024 at several Hydro facilities in Rjukan, Norway. Entering the hydro electric plants transports the mind to a parallel dimension reflecting the world of science and emotion.

The final sequence features medium format images that strike a balance between material substance and the vast scale of the underground system.
